Repeat teen offender charged as an adult after recent burglary arrest in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) – A teenager is behind bars after being arrested for burglary in Hattiesburg.

According to Hattiesburg police, 16-year-old Kayden Smith is charged with burglary and entering a dwelling.

Due to his history of prior offenses, HPD said Smith is being charged as an adult.

HPD said around 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4, officers responded to a home invasion incident in the 1700 block of 1st Terrace.

When officers arrived, they learned that Smith had allegedly broken into a relative’s home and stolen several items. HPD said officers were able to locate him about an hour after the incident was reported.

Smith was questioned by authorities and was eventually arrested and booked into the Forrest County Jail.

HPD said the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
