Youngster confirmed he was safe after Amber Alert was issued

A 7-year-old girl has been found safe after an Amber Alert was issued Monday evening.

Oaklynn Alexander was reported last seen in Empire.

The suspect in the kidnapping was Charles Alexander, 43, Oaklynn’s father.

According to the Ohio Amber Alert, Alexander was located in Brunswick, Ohio. Around 8 p.m., Brunswick Police located Alexander and initiated a failed traffic stop.

Multiple police officers pursued the vehicle southbound on Interstate 71 toward Medina. During the pursuit, stop sticks were deployed, disabling the vehicle.

Police say the vehicle was traveling southbound and exited on State Route 18, in Medina Township, and came to a stop in a business parking lot where law enforcement officers attempted to negotiate with Alexander, who was armed.

According to police, Alexander communicated with several control rooms by telephone. Multiple gunshots were fired during an officer-involved shooting. Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene by coroner Dr. Deranek of Medina County.

“Oaklynn Alexander is in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office,” Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla Jr. said. Monday evening. “Charles Alexander has been neutralized, which is under investigation by the Medina Sheriff’s Office.”

No officers were physically injured.
