Evanston police are issuing a warning after four robberies in recent days

Evanston Police have issued a community alert after a series of robberies during the past four days.

Authorities said the incidents involved suspects targeting people while buying or selling items.

The first robbery occurred on Nov. 8 around 12:30 p.m., when a delivery driver in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue was approached by four men in their late teens. Police said while one suspect pretended to give a tip, the others demanded the driver’s car and phone. Two of the suspects reportedly displayed handguns, but no injuries were reported.

Later that evening, another robbery occurred at Mason Park, located at 1724 Church St., at approximately 8:30 p.m. Four men, believed to be in their mid to late teens, met with a vendor for a clothing sale. The suspects took the items and fled. No injuries have been reported.

Two more incidents followed on November 11. The first occurred at 10:35 a.m. in the 1500 block of Church Street, where two suspects posing as buyers arranged to meet with a seller. After trying on a jacket, a suspect revealed a firearm handle tucked into his waistband before the two fled.

About two hours later, in the 1800 block of Church Street, two men approached a vendor, tried on clothing and showed a gun before fleeing. The victim chased them and was hit by one of the suspects.

Residents are urged to complete online sales at the Evanston Police Department, located at 1454 Elmwood Ave. Police also warn sellers against pursuing or confronting violators.

The investigation into all four cases is still ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact investigators at 847-866-5040 or send a tip to CRIMES (274637), beginning the message with EPDTIP.
