Victims identified in deadly crash in Hamilton County

AURORA, Neb. (KSNB) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two people killed in a crash north of Aurora Monday.

The sheriff’s office said a southbound semi collided with a northbound pickup truck on Highway 14.

The driver of the pickup, 42-year-old Nathan Omel, and the rear passenger, 66-year-old Cynthia Omel, both of Grand Island, died at the scene.

Marion Omel, 95, a front seat passenger in the pickup, was taken to CHI Health St. Francis, where he remains hospitalized. His condition is fair.

The driver of the semi is a 34-year-old man from Kearney, who was not injured in the crash.

Seat belts were used in both vehicles.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.

On-scene assistance included the Aurora Police Department, Aurora Fire & Ambulance and the Nebraska State Patrol.
