The victim is being treated at a hospital in Kearney for a gunshot wound to the chest.

According to the North Platte Police Department, officers were called to a home near East 11th and North Walnut Street after a caller reported that a driver had crashed his vehicle into a parked car in the area. The driver slumped over the steering wheel.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Great Plains Health with life-threatening injuries and then transported to Kearney for higher care.

The suspect, Daveante Booker, 23, of Evansville, Indiana, is scheduled to appear in Lincoln County District Court on Tuesday. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and use of a deadly weapon to commit a crime.
