WITN has video of the fatal crash involving a toddler

KINSTON, N.C. (WITN) – Police released more information Friday evening about the death of a toddler who was struck and killed by a pickup truck.

Gynie Wade was murdered in a collision at the Carver Courts residential complex in Kinston while a man was injured.

The two-year-old’s father, Rashaun Wade, has been charged with manslaughter and two counts of hit and run.

WITN has obtained video showing what happened.

Police confirm that a domestic dispute between Wade and the toddler’s mother preceded the collision.

In the video, which police say they also have, shows several people pulling a woman away from what is believed to be Wade’s pickup. The toddler is seen at one point in the grass to the right of where the truck was parked as several people argued near the driver’s side door.

The video pans away from the truck and then screeching tires are heard and people start screaming and yelling.

Major Brandon Turner told WITN that Wade put the truck in gear, jumped the curb and hit his daughter. He then turned around and hit a 35-year-old man who happened to be nearby, Turner said.

The video shows someone running after the pickup after the girl was hit and before it hit the other man.

Turner says the man is in fair condition at ECU Health Medical Center and hopes the community will heal from this tragedy.

“We ask the community to be patient and allow justice to take its course,” Major Turner said.
