Minico’s Preston Sonner-Cranney named final Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) – The quarterfinals of the Idaho high school football playoffs are in the books, with six area teams advancing to the semifinals.

There were many great performances in the quarterfinals, but our final Friday Night Blitz Player of the Week goes to one Minico running back.

That award goes to Minicos Preston Sonner Cranney, who has now received the award three times.

The senior running back continued to lead the Spartans in contention, scoring four rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning score, while the Spartans upset the Bishop Kelly Knights 41-35 in triple-OT.

To make it even more fun for Minico, this was a rematch from earlier in the season, in which the Spartans lost by 12 points.

Sonner-Cranney now has 32 touchdowns, including both regular season and playoff runs, as he and the Spartans look to keep the momentum going into the semifinals.

Minico head coach Sherman Blaser spoke highly of his senior running back.

“He has been a workhorse for us all season. A great kid and leader for our team. I believe he is the best player in the state,” Blaser told KMVT. “I am proud of the team for their grit and determination against BK (Bishop Kelly). It is a special group.”

Number 5 Minico will face number 1 Skyline in the semi-finals on Saturday.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at the ICCU Dome in Pocatello.
