Investigators reveal cause of explosion on W. Franklin Street

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – One person is being treated for burns after an explosion on Franklin Street in Evansville.

That’s according to Evansville police, who tell us it happened Tuesday afternoon at the Heritage Petroleum building.

Police say a kerosene truck inside the store exploded.

Investigators say the explosion occurred when a worker removed the fuel tank from the truck and sparks from his torch ignited the fuel on the ground.

We’re told the worker was rushed to hospital.

EPD officers say the severity of his injuries are unknown.

Officials on the scene say the fire is under control and there is no danger to the public.

Several people we spoke to in the area say they heard and felt the explosion just minutes after the fire alarm went off.

Investigators tell us the investigation into the explosion has been completed.

We have several reporters on the ground and are working to find out more.
