Maryville man arrested in Georgia after child abuse investigation

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Blount County Sheriff’s Office said a Maryville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with an ongoing investigation involving juveniles.

Sheriff James Lee Berrong said an investigation involving 51-year-old Shane Rewis of Maryville began in May after two female juveniles reported he had contacted them with inappropriate comments and photos.

The months-long investigation eventually led to a third female victim, Berrong said.

As a result, Rewis was indicted by a Blount County Grand Jury earlier this month on the following charges:

  • Two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child
  • Human trafficking for commercial sex acts
  • Three counts of exploitation of a minor by electronic means
  • Sexual exploitation of a minor

Following a search, Berrong said Rewis was arrested without incident early Tuesday morning at a home in Seminole County, Georgia.

Rewis is being held in the Seminole County Jail pending extradition to Tennessee, Berrong said.
