Attack, robbery victim again targeted near his home in Jamacha

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A Jamacha man brutally attacked during a robbery two years ago is once again the victim of a crime.

Every time Jerry Gibson watches the surveillance video outside his Jamacha home, he does a double take.

“It amazes me that someone could do this in broad daylight,” Gibson said. “He doesn’t even bother to look around, fixated on what he’s looking for.”

A few weeks ago, a video showed a man walking up to the trailer hitch of his SUV parked on Lisbon Street, casually loosening the straps and stealing a generator worth more than $1,200. It was a deflating moment for Gibson, a handyman, who used it for tree pruning and other jobs.

“Sure, my heart sank. I felt it in my stomach. It shocked me,” Gibson said.

It happened more than two years after a robbery that turned terrifying.

“I was cut in the back of my head, from ear to ear,” Gibson said.

Gibson still carries the gruesome memories on his head and neck.

“There’s a scar on my neck, across the collarbone,” Gibson said.

In September 2022, two men attacked Gibson and stabbed him twice as he collected tools near his home.

“Doctors said I could have died anyway,” Gibson said.

Earlier this year there were two guilty verdicts for the two suspects, including a 9-year prison sentence for the man who stabbed him.

It took a year for Gibson to heal physically. He has been diagnosed with depression.

“There is still a lot of mental and emotional trauma that we are still dealing with. It’s a long road, I think,” Gibson said. “I just can’t seem to move forward.”

Gibson has filed a police report in hopes of tracking down the thief.

“I’m not going to let this get me down…I would like to see justice served,” Gibson said.

A GoFundMe campaign has started to help Gibson replace its stolen generator.
