Private company employee arrested for faking an 8L robbery

Times News Network
Ludhiana: An employee of a Khanna-based private company, who alleged that two unknown assailants robbed him of Rs 8 lakh on Monday, was arrested for fabricating the robbery story. The employee and his accomplice had taken the money, which the police later found with them.
The arrested suspects are Harshpreet Singh alias Jassu, of Ramgarh Sardaran of Malaud, and his friend Gaurav Singh. Harshpreet Singh is an employee of rice trader Vishal Kumar from Mandi Gobindgarh.
Khanna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashwani Gotyal said that Harshpreet informed the police that he had collected a check from his office and went to the bank to withdraw the money. He alleged that after withdrawing Rs 8 lakh, two miscreants in an auto-rickshaw attacked him near Salaudi village and snatched the bag containing the money. Harshpreet also reported minor injuries and was taken to hospital. A case was registered against unknown assailants. The SSP said several police teams had been formed and CCTV footage from the area had been reviewed. The footage showed Harshpreet riding the bike and later appearing unhurt without a bag. Moreover, the location where Harshpreet claimed the robbery took place was far from where he was seen without the money bag.
When interrogated, Harshpreet confessed to the crime. He admitted that he had withdrawn Rs 8 lakh from the company’s account and handed over the money to his friend Gaurav, after which he concocted the robbery story. Harshpreet kept Rs 5 lakh for himself and gave Gaurav Rs 3 lakh.
