Carjacking reported in BR; vehicle later involved in the pursuit, officers say

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A vehicle reportedly stolen during a carjacking in East Baton Rouge Parish was also later involved in a law enforcement pursuit in St. John the Baptist Parish, according to deputies.

Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the chase, officers said. They added that two of the teens are under the age of 18, while the third teen was identified as Jamal Bradley, 18.

According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, the carjacking happened around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9. Officers said the stolen vehicle was spotted later that evening in LaPlace near West Airline Highway and Rue De Sante.

A St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, but the driver did not stop and began pursuing police, deputies said. They added that the stolen vehicle was sometimes traveling at 80 miles per hour in an area with a 45 mile per hour speed limit.

The stolen vehicle eventually hit a fence in a subdivision and crashed into a tree near Lake Ponchartrain Elementary, officers said. They added that the three occupants of the vehicle then fled on foot.

According to officers, Bradley was eventually found walking near the intersection of Tuscany and Summerlin Drive. Meanwhile, officers said the second teen was found near one of the school buildings, while the third teen was discovered hiding in the bathroom of a nearby restaurant.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the carjacking.
