Trump announces the official nomination of Florida GOP Rep. Mike Waltz as his national security adviser

President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., will serve as his national security adviser in his second term.

“I am honored to announce that Congressman Mike Waltz (R-FL) is hereby appointed to serve in my Cabinet as my National Security Advisor,” Trump said. wrote in an emailed statement. “Mike is the first Green Beret elected to Congress and has previously served in the White House and the Pentagon.”

News media reported this last weekend that Trump would choose Waltz. The Wall Street Journal was the first to get the scoop.

“Mike retired as a colonel and is a nationally recognized leader in National Security, a best-selling author and an expert on the threats from China, Russia, Iran and global terrorism,” Trump’s statement continued . “He is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.”

Waltz currently represents Florida’s Sixth Congressional District.
