Owner awarded Rs 2.59 lakh compensation in Kerala, electric scooter, breakdown, compensation, Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, palakkad

Palakkad: Compensation of Rs 2.59 lakh was imposed by the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on the owner of an electric scooter that was defective within a week of purchase.

According to the owner’s complaint, the scooter repeatedly only displayed the message “Your scooter is sleeping” on both the mobile app and the scooter’s touchscreen, and ultimately failed to start. The owner, CB Rajesh of Akathethara, Shanthinagar, approached the committee after facing these issues.

The committee found that the scooter had a manufacturing defect and directed the company to refund the cost of the scooter of Rs 1.27 lakh along with 10 percent interest. The company will also have to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation and Rs 20,000 as legal fees.

The order, issued by Commission chairman V Vinay Menon and member NK Krishnankutty, directed the company to pay the amount within 45 days. If payment is delayed, an additional Rs 500 per month will be charged until payment is cleared.
