The Cheshire community is calling for action over the teacher’s controversial video

CHESHIRE, CT (WFSB) – Tensions were high Tuesday evening at a city council meeting as community members in Cheshire demanded more transparency and accountability following the release of a controversial video featuring a teacher that has sparked widespread outrage.

The video, which went viral on social media, appears to show the teacher making politically charged comments about supporters of newly elected President Donald Trump.

The incident has prompted an investigation by Cheshire Police, and local residents are calling for immediate action, including the teacher’s dismissal.

“Our lives are being targeted by an individual who collects a salary from Cheshire City every week. Her name is Annie Dunleavy,” said Amy Bourdon, a Cheshire parent of a child with special needs who attends local schools.

Bourdon, an outspoken Republican and Trump supporter, described the video as a matter of public safety for the entire community.

Bourdon wants action taken by police and the school district.

“Whatever they’re doing now is a lawsuit, but if the lawsuit doesn’t end with the termination of this teacher, then I think the city is going to have an expensive legal battle,” Bourdon said.

Bourdon wasn’t the only one who spoke out.

Lori Barnes, a Cheshire resident and grandmother of a child with special needs who will attend Cheshire Public Schools next year, expressed her concerns about the video.

“I can’t unsee it and I can’t walk into that school. I’m shaking. I can’t walk into that school and hand my child over to that person,” Barnes said.

During the meeting, council leader Peter Talbot briefly addressed the situation and condemned the teacher’s actions.

“We have seen an exploitative tirade from an individual associated with Cheshire Public Schools,” Talbot said. “This kind of rhetoric has no place in our society and serves absolutely no purpose.”

Superintendent Jeff Solans did not identify the teacher or provide additional details, only noting that the situation remains under investigation.

In a statement to families, Solans acknowledged the ongoing issue but refrained from further comment.

The meeting did not state whether disciplinary action had been taken against the teacher or whether interim measures had been taken.

In response to growing concerns, there was an increased police presence at Cheshire schools on Tuesday to ensure the safety of students and staff.

As the investigation continues, the Cheshire community remains divided over next steps, with many calling for decisive action and clearer communication from city officials.
