Car explodes in Sevastopol, killing driver identified by Telegram channels as first-rank captain of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet – Meduza

On Wednesday morning, a car exploded in Sevastopol, killing a soldier behind the wheel, Russia’s installed governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said.

According to Razvozhayev, the explosion was reported to emergency services at 9:53 a.m. local time. The fire brigade quickly arrived on the scene and removed the driver from the vehicle, but paramedics were unable to save him.

“The investigating authorities will determine the cause of the explosion, but it is clear that the possibility of sabotage cannot be excluded,” Razvozhayev said.

The Telegram channel Baza identified the driver as first rank captain of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, although this has not been independently confirmed. Baza and Pureeciting preliminary information, reported that an IED had been detonated in the vehicle.
