Shocked when the district leader of Tanzania’s ruling party was fatally shot in Iringa

Iringa. Christina Kibiki, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) secretary for Kilolo district, was tragically shot dead by unknown assailants in an overnight attack that has left the local community in shock.

The violent incident took place on Tuesday near Njiapanda ya Tosamaganga, a village in Iringa District Council, just outside Iringa town, where Kibiki lived.

Witnesses reported that Kibiki was ambushed and shot on the outskirts of Njiapanda ya Tosamaganga between 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM. She was immediately rushed to Tosamaganga Regional Referral Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Kilolo CCM District Chairman John Kiteve confirmed the tragic news in a telephone interview with The citizenin which he expressed his deep sorrow over the sudden loss of his colleague.

“The news has deeply saddened us as a party. We are preparing for her funeral, which will take place the day after tomorrow. Our Secretary General of the CCM, Emmanuel Nchimbi, is expected to be present to pay his respects,” he said.

The community has expressed concern and sadness over Kibiki’s untimely death, with many calling for swift justice.

Efforts are being made to reach Iringa Regional Police Commander Allan Bukumbi for comment as authorities intensify investigations into the incident. The citizen will continue to monitor developments closely.

The CCM Secretary for Ideology, Publicity and Training, Mr Amos Makala, said in a statement yesterday that the party was in shock when it learned of the death.

“The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) has received with great shock the news of the death of its District Secretary of Kilolo in the Iringa Region, Mrs. Christina Kibiki, who was murdered by unknown assailants,” read part of the statement issued by Mr. Makala.

It said the late Mrs Kibiki was preparing to attend an orientation seminar for the party secretaries in Dodoma tomorrow.

“CCM extends its condolences to her family, relatives, leaders and members of the CCM in the Iringa region following this sudden and brutal death…. We urge our members to remain calm as law enforcement authorities continue to investigate this incident to hold those responsible accountable. justice,” the statement reads in part.
