The cast of Bad Sisters have revealed the shocking news weather circumstances in which they rushed to film a crucial scene for season 2.

After two years without screens, the Irish black comedy created by Sharon Horgan returns to Apple Television today.

It follows the five Garvey sisters – Eva (Sharon), Grace (Anne-Marie Duff), Ursula (Eva Birthistle), Bibi (Sarah Greene) and Becka (Eve Hewson).

After Grace’s abusive, controlling husband John Paul (Claes Bang) died unexpectedly in season 1, the sisters found themselves at the center of a life insurance investigation.

The upcoming episodes are set two years after JP’s death and although the sisters do their best to move on with their lives, when a truth from the past resurfaces, they are ‘thrown back into the spotlight, the suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are lurking again.’ are told, secrets revealed, and the sisters are forced to figure out who they can trust’.

This season is packed with shocking twists, but one of the happier moments was marred by behind-the-scenes drama, the cast said. Subway in a recent interview.

The clifftop wedding scene in which Grace finally appears to get her happy ending coincided with the arrival of Storm Ciarán on the coast of Ireland.

Sharon called the experience “terrifying” and joked that at one point it was like “that scene in the Titanic when the band was playing” as the ship was sinking.

“We had an incredible band Goitse and at that one moment they still had to capture the last moment of their performance and the rest of us were gone and hidden from this storm,” she recalled when speaking to Subway.

Meanwhile, director Dearbhla Walsh said the three-day shoot to capture that scene was “definitely a challenge.”

“At one point the marquee was going to go up and we had to move a scene from outside to inside,” she said.

Actress Anne-Marie said the cast and crew were in good spirits before the storm arrived and the “sun was shining and the sea was calm.”

However, the next day they found themselves “practically in the middle of the hurricane” and had to dance in wet dresses amid gale-force winds.

“So there we were dancing in horizontal rain and pretending… but that’s an Irish wedding for you,” she joked.

However, Sharon did admit that the challenging weather conditions produced “some of the most authentic and compelling images.”

Storm Ciarán severely hit parts of Europe from late October to early November last year, killing 21 people in Italy and France.

There was widespread damage in the Channel Islands, where winds of up to 100 miles per hour were recorded. Ireland escaped the worst of the storm, but had to deal with heavy rain showers.

However, filming the wedding scenes became ‘scary’ when a huge storm rolled in (Picture: Apple TV Plus)

Although initially intended as a limited series, Bad Sisters turned out to be such a big hit, winning the 2022 Bafta for best drama series and being nominated for four Emmy Awards – that it was ordered for someone else.

However, Sharon admitted she felt “huge pressure” to deliver another great season.

“You feel like there’s a responsibility when people are invested in the show and really love the characters. It scares you when you don’t perform for them,” she said.

“But at some point you have to ignore all that and focus on the story you want to tell, and forget about people and do what you think is the best chapter for those characters.”

Although the cast believed the show was “well and done,” there was a feeling around the set during the filming of Season 1 that the show “might have more life.”

‘We would suggest things, but I don’t think any of that has been taken on board! I think one of the ideas was that maybe JP had a sister who could come back and get revenge on the sisters. We wanted it to come back and were absolutely thrilled when it happened,” Sarah shared.

Bad Sisters has been praised for having five women at the helm, with Anne-Marie explaining that it was ‘a joy to come on set every day and be supported by women’.

“What Sharon also does wonderfully is that it has five female leads at the center, which is highly unusual, and they are all incredibly complex, layered and messy people,” she said.

“That’s why I think people related to this show and we had a connection. We spent eight months together and it couldn’t be otherwise. It was coming to work with your best friends, it was wonderful.”

This season of the show also sees the addition of Fiona Shaw, who plays Roger’s (Michael Smiley) meddling sister Angelica, who builds tension as she tries to get to the bottom of the sisters’ secrets.

Season 2 of Bad Sisters premieres on Wednesday, November 13. It will be followed by one episode every week, every Wednesday through December 25.
