Arrest after man’s death in five-star hotel

A man has been arrested following the death of a man in his 60s at a hotel in County Laois in the Republic of Ireland.

Gardaí (Irish Police) said they were called to the hotel shortly before 8pm local time on Tuesday.

Irish broadcaster RTÉ has ​​reported that the property is a Ballyfin Demensea five-star hotel on a 614-acre estate near the Slieve Bloom mountains.

It said it was understood the arrested man, who is in his 30s, was traveling with the deceased man.

Gardaí described the death as a fatal attack and said they are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death.

An incident room has been set up at Portlaoise Garda station and a family liaison has been appointed to assist the dead man’s family.
