AAP asks for suspension of recruitment process in Goa over cash-for-jobs scam

A delegation of the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday met Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai in connection with the government job scam and demanded suspension of the recruitment process until a judicial commission conducts an inquiry. Goa police have so far arrested 18 people in connection with the scam.

On Tuesday, police in Ponda arrested a woman worker of the ruling BJP for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing government jobs. The AAP delegation comprising Goa unit president Amit Palekar, party MLAs Venzy Viegas, Cruz Silva and others met the governor. Later, speaking to reporters outside the Raj Bhavan, Palekar said the party demanded that all current recruitments in the government service be suspended until a judicial commission conducts an inquiry.

“There should also be a probe into past recruitments, including those for the posts of sub-inspector of police,” he said. The delegation told the governor that this kind of scam was not possible without the involvement of people at the government level, the AAP leader said.

Some office-bearers of the BJP were also arrested for cheating people on the pretext of giving them government jobs, he said, adding, “But the BJP has now distanced itself from these suspects. They systematically explain that they resigned earlier. the scam occurred.”

Palekar claimed that he has been raising the issue of cash-for-jobs fraud for eight months. “Whatever I said is now being exposed after the victims started coming forward,” he said.
