SAFA boss Danny Jordaan accused of fraud appears in court for the first time

JOHANNESBURG – South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan, accused of fraud, has appeared in court for the first time.

Jordaan appeared in the Specialized Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday afternoon.

His two co-suspects are Gronie Hluyo, financial director of SAFA, and businessman Trevor Neethling.

The trio are accused of defrauding SAFA of R1.3 million between 2017 and 2019.

The State alleges that Jordaan used the organization’s resources for personal gain, including hiring a communications company to clean up his public image.

State Prosector Moagi Malebati: “During the periods of July and October 2019, when suspect number four received a total sum of R345,000, without any contractual agreement with SAFA and without suspect number four providing services to SAFA.”
