MEDFORD, Long Island (WABC) — A volunteer firefighter in Suffolk County was arrested for allegedly starting a brush fire in Medford.

Firefighter Jonathan Quiles intentionally set a fire in a wooded area on Mount Vernon Avenue, damaging a nearby 2004 Chevrolet, police say.

The fire raged in part of Twelve Pines Park on Tuesday afternoon. The fire brigade arrived on site on Wednesday morning to extinguish the hotspots.

It was one of several wildfires in Suffolk County on Wednesday.

Quiles is charged with arson and reckless endangerment.

He will be arraigned later today in Central Islip.
