18-year-old dead in overnight crash near Canton, Missouri

LEWIS, COUNTY (WGEM) – An 18-year-old man from Wentzville, Missouri, died in a crash on Highway 61 north of Canton, Missouri, Tuesday around 11:30 p.m.

The southbound lanes of Highway 61 reopened Wednesday morning, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation’s traveler map.

The southbound lanes of Highway 61 were closed and traffic was diverted to Route B as cleanup efforts continued. Highway Patrol estimated the road would reopen sometime after 6:30 a.m

According to the MoDot crash report, the 18-year-old man was driving south in the northbound lane of US 61 when a semi-truck struck his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, a 35-year-old from Minnesota, was not injured in the crash.
