Homeless women attacked; Beaverton man, 68, arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 68-year-old Beaverton man charged with sexually assaulting homeless people is “strongly” suspected of assaulting other women, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into Ronald Burchett began in June when an individual told authorities she had been sexually assaulted. In October, another person made a similar claim. Both were homeless and said Burchett offered to help them.

Investigators said Burchett “specifically targeted women who lack stable housing,” and believe other women may have been victimized.

Burchett was indicted by a grand jury on Nov. 7 and arrested the next day, officials said. He is being held in the Washington County Jail for unlawful sexual penetration and sexual abuse.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503.846.2500.
