71-year-old woman murdered during home invasion in Balrampur |

Lucknow: Unidentified assailants broke into a house in Niboriya village, Maharajganj Terai, Balrampur district, and strangled a 70-year-old woman, identified as Saroj Singh, before looting valuables in the early hours of Wednesday. The intruders entered the house via a ladder and targeted the room where Saroj Singh was sleeping.
According to the victim’s son Akhilesh Bahadur Singh, the attackers locked other family members from outside in their respective rooms and went to his mother’s room where they allegedly strangled her and broke open the cupboard, stealing around Rs 7 lakh worth of jewelery had been stolen. 3 lakh cash and a revolver.
The incident came to light around 2 a.m. when Akhilesh’s father, Dashrath Singh, woke up and saw the locked rooms. He freed himself, notified other family members and contacted police. Senior police officials, including SP Vikas Kumar, reached the spot accompanied by a forensic team. DIG of Devi Patan range AP Singh also visited the site to review the investigation.
In response to the incident, SP Vikas Kumar formed four special teams to expedite investigation and track down the attackers. “The woman’s body has been sent for autopsy and we are working hard to arrest the perpetrators,” he said. The incident created an atmosphere of fear in the village as police intensified efforts to solve the case.
The victim’s son is a real estate dealer and the police are also investigating other angles.
