This underrated thriller full of twist is the number 1 film on Netflix

It seems like every week the number one trend film on Netflix is a great throwback to years ago. This week’s top pick is none other than Will Smith And By Margot Robbie Thriller from 2015 Focuswhich I now realize is super underrated. I myself was one of those people who wrote this movie off upon its initial release, thinking it was just “another Will Smith action movie” that he had made before (and better). However, upon rewatching, I believe that the mix of action, danger, and romance is a great mix that makes this movie entertaining.

Despite mixed reviews from critics, Focus raked in a smooth $158 million at the box office, and now that I’ve largely abandoned my comic book movie phase for dramas and crime thrillers (minus the rumored upcoming Black Panther 3 Denzel Washington just announced that he’ll be in it of course), I think this is the better Smith/Robbie collaboration compared to 2016 Suicide squad.

With the film currently hitting number one on Netflix, there’s no better time than now to rewatch it with fresh eyes. Here are a few reasons why you should check it out if you haven’t already.

The steamy storyline

There’s no doubt that Will Smith and Margot Robbie make a great couple in the movie (with some steamy scenes to prove it), but the storyline is interesting too. In the film, Nick (Smith) portrays an experienced con man who takes Jess (Robbie) under his wing. The two become romantically involved, which leads to her feeling uncomfortable and ending their relationship. Three years pass and now Nick meets Jess again while on assignment. However, Jess has now become a real femme fatale, creating an interesting dynamic between the two.

2. It’s better than Suicide Squad

Yes, I believe Focus is a better movie then Suicide squad– and this is coming from someone who was obsessed with the latter in 2016. Although I won’t write the chemistry between Deadshot (Smith) and Harley Quinn (Robbie). Suicide squad all out, I personally feel like the chemistry between Smith and Robbie is much more dynamic in this film.

3. It’s a chance to see early Margot Robbie in action

Before Margot Robbie was ‘Barbie’, she made a name for herself in Hollywood with films like Focus. It’s always interesting to see an actor’s rise through their respective filmography, and Robbie’s performance gives a taste of the more in-depth roles we’d see from her a few years later, such as Me, Tonya.

PureWow Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Both Smith and Robbie both have better films in their catalogue, but Focus It’s still a movie you can enjoy because it’s fun, sexy, and interesting. The cinematography is beautiful, along with the scenery of Buenos Aires, and there is good acting from everyone involved, adding to the intense action sequences present throughout.

You can stream Focus on Netflix.
