DETROIT – A 15-year-old Detroit boy has been charged in connection with injuring his 32-year-old mother and killing a 14-year-old boy in a shooting that arose from an argument between children.

The teen has been charged with manslaughter and a firearms offense.

He is not charged as an adult, but is designated as an adult, meaning that upon conviction, a judge can sentence him as a juvenile, adult or “a mixed juvenile sentence, with the option to impose an adult sentence if the minor does not is.” rehabilitated,” according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

The teenager’s exam is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 at 1:30 PM.

How an argument led to the shooting

On Thursday, November 7, at approximately 6 p.m., Detroit officers responded to the area of ​​Seward Street and Second Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting.

When they arrived they found a 14-year-old boy on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital and died from his injuries on Monday, Nov. 11, the prosecutor’s office said.

The 32-year-old woman was taken privately to a hospital.

The 15-year-old and the 14-year-old were reportedly involved in an argument, which escalated, and the 15-year-old pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

He hit his mother in the right arm and the 14-year-old was shot in the head, left arm, right hand and left thigh.

Detroit police said this argument stemmed from another argument between a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old. Older children and the mother of one of the children got involved, and then the mother’s 15-year-old son showed up and fired shots.

The teen ran from the scene after the shooting, but was arrested by officers who were part of an undercover operation separate from this shooting.
