One officer-involved shooting death in Fargo

A 65-year-old Fargo man is dead after an officer-involved shooting this morning.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolksi says officers responded to the man’s home in south Fargo after 10 a.m. this morning. He had made numerous calls for help throughout the morning regarding the need for medical attention due to suicidal thoughts.

Zibolski says Fargo Fire and EMS were responded to the scene and dialogue with the man was unsuccessful. He came out of the house at 10:52 a.m. with a gun and Zibolski says two officers shot at him. Life-saving measures were taken, but were unsuccessful. The officers were given a paid administrative task.

Zibolksi says the names of the officers — a sergeant with eight years of service and an officer with 10 months of service — will be released Friday. The identity of the deceased will be announced tomorrow.

Zibolski says Fargo police had several previous contacts with the deceased.

“We had six other contacts in 2024 and I don’t have all the previous details, but several contacts before 2024 related to the same issues.”

Zibolski called the incident “very tragic.”

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation.
