Man charged with 10 crimes after allegedly pistol-whipping a man while being chased at high speed by police

SEDALIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Sedalia man has been charged with 10 felonies after he allegedly hit another person in the head with a gun and led police on a high-speed chase Monday.

Evans Weber, 23, was charged with second-degree assault, four counts of armed criminal action, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon, tampering with evidence, aggravated flight, resisting arrest and unlawful discharge of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

A warrant was issued Tuesday and bond was set at $250,000. An arraignment took place Wednesday morning.

According to one of the probable cause statements, dispatchers received a call about shots fired at an AT&T store on West Broadway Boulevard in Sedalia. The statement says several witnesses gave similar accounts of an argument in the parking lot and a man hitting another person in the head with a gun.

A shot was fired when the man hit the other person with the gun, the statement said. The man then allegedly drove away. Another probable cause statement says officers began chasing a white Ford Flex on 32i.e Street on Route B. The Ford then eventually began driving the wrong way on Highway 65 while traveling faster than 100 miles per hour, the statement said.

Weber then drove the Ford the wrong way on 16e Street before it crashed, the statement says. Weber ran from the vehicle, but police were able to arrest him. He allegedly threw a gun near a dumpster at a LensCrafters building, court documents say.

One of the probable cause statements states that Weber told police he hit another person in the head with his wallet and ran off when he heard a “pop.” Weber denied owning a gun, the statement said.
