10-year-old Shelby County girl dies 8 days after being struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter

A Shelby County fifth-grader died Wednesday, just over a week after she was struck by a vehicle in Montevallo.

Ember Poe, 10, was riding her scooter on Tuesday, November 5, when she was hit.

The accident happened around 5:15 p.m in the 300 block of Spring Creek Road.

Ember was taken to Children’s of Alabama in Birmingham, where she was pronounced dead at 11:32 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans said.

The Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force is investigating the incident.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released, stopped at the scene.

No charges have been filed at this time in connection with Ember’s death.

Attempts to reach Montevallo Police for additional information were unsuccessful.

A GoFundMe which started last week to help Ember’s family with costs, has raised nearly $13,000.
