Man seriously injured after semi-truck blades during rainy commute

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A Kansas City man was seriously injured Wednesday morning after a semi-truck struck his car.

Just before 8:15 a.m. on November 13, the Kansas Highway Patrol received the report of a two-vehicle crash on I-635 near I-70.

KHP reported that a semi-trailer was entering northbound I-635 from K32 when the semi-trailer shifted gears and crossed all lanes. The trailer struck the median and then struck a Honda Accord traveling in the third lane.

The semi-trailer continued to move and struck the highway’s outer barrier wall before veering to a stop across several lanes.

Traffic was reduced to one lane for approximately two hours. Tow trucks removed the trailer around 10:10 a.m. and full traffic flow resumed shortly after.

The 35-year-old driver of the semi-truck was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The 31-year-old driver of the Honda was wearing a seat belt and is believed to be seriously injured. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

It is unclear what caused the semi-truck to be knifed, but road conditions were slippery due to rain at the time of the crash.
