Keenan Allen says ex-Bears OC Shane Waldron was ‘too nice’

The Chicago Bears made a big change this week: fire offensive coordinator Shane Waldron after two consecutive losses in which Caleb Williams and Co. couldn’t find the end zone at all. The Bears still have hopes of making the postseason while sitting at 4-5, but the atmosphere around the organization is pretty bad as things stand right now and it’s clear hopes head coach Matt Eberflus this rocking of the boat will help turn things around.

On Wednesday, Bears players spoke to the media for the first time since the development, and veteran Keenan Allen gave an unusual reason why the Bears had to fire Waldron: He was too nice.

“Too nice of a man,” Allen countered Then Wiedererper Kalyn Kahler. “OTAs, camp, we’ve fallen into the trap of letting things go and not holding people accountable, and that’s a slippery slope. Just professionalism and doing things the right way from the start.”

From an outsider’s perspective, that seems like a problem for a football coach. Few ever gain a reputation for being nice.

However, the fact of the matter in the NFL is that results matter more than anything. Waldron, with the Bears’ 30th-ranked offense and a league-leading 38 sacks allowed, failed to deliver the desired results. Now he’s out.

The Bears will have a chance to show that things have improved against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
