Washington commanders unveil plan for Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley

The Washington commanders face a tough matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, who boast one of the best running backs in football in Saquon Barkley.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn knows Barkley well after years of preparing against him while playing for the New York Giants, and now he has a plan for him for Thursday Night Football.

“It’s a challenge because of his ability to jump and you might be in the right hole where you think you should be,” Quinn said of Barkley. “And he has such speed to accelerate out of that corner. So you don’t want a lot of one-man tackles on a ballplayer of his level, where he can change, turn and use things. He’s also an effective player outside the backfield, on screens and on swings. He can catch routes down the field that sometimes don’t go to the running backs, but in his case they can. So yeah, he’s an exceptional player. One we like to compete against. but he has really unique skills, like a lot of guys. Maybe a receiver in a few weeks, a tight end this week, a quarterback. And so it’s a pretty cool part of the NFL and push it to the limit and that makes playing in this division, as I said, against this team a lot of fun.”

Barkley, 27, has been on a tear in his first season with the Eagles. It’s very likely he’ll reach the 1,000-yard mark by Week 11 of the season, as he’s just nine shy of that mark. It would mark the fourth 1,000-meter campaign of his career, having accomplished the feat in 2018, 2019 and 2022.

He also has 21 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver, making him a true dual-threat running back.

If the Commanders can find ways to limit and contain Barkley, their chances of winning will increase.
