McGregor man fired a gun at a vehicle driving through his yard as he reversed out of a cul-de-sac

WACO, Texas (KWTX) – A McGregor man was arrested after shooting at a vehicle that drove through his yard while backing out of a dead-end street, an affidavit alleges.

David Hottle, 57, is charged with aggravated assault.

On November 11, shortly after 8 p.m., the victim went to the McGregor Police Department to report that he had been shot earlier that evening in the 1000 block of South Jackson Street.

The victim said he was going to care for someone’s pets and was unfamiliar with the area, according to the affidavit.

After making a wrong turn, the victim said he turned onto the sidewalk and approached a ditch, the affidavit said. The victim said he retreated and began walking through someone’s yard.

The resident of the home, later identified as Hottle, came outside, pointed a gun at the victim’s car and fired several rounds, the affidavit alleges.

The victim’s car was struck by a bullet near the left rear wheel well, the statement said.

Authorities contacted Hottle at his home and asked him if any vehicles had driven through his yard recently.

According to the affidavit, Hottle told authorities that a black suburbanite had previously been driving through the area.

Authorities then asked Hottle if a black pickup truck drove through his yard recently, to which he hung his head and said “yes,” the affidavit alleges.

Authorities told Hottle they were told he fired several rounds at the vehicle and Hottle responded that he shot the ground, according to the affidavit.

Hottle was informed by authorities that he had struck the vehicle with gunfire, and Hottle did not deny shooting the vehicle, the affidavit said.

Police asked Hottle about the gun he used and confiscated the weapon.

Hottle was later arrested and booked into the McLennan County Jail.
