For the first time, a brother-sister duo will command two warships simultaneously.

While Commander Prerna Deosthalee commands the Indian Navy’s INS Trinkat, her brother Commander Ishan Deosthalee commands the INS Vibhuti, a Veer-class missile ship, ANI said.

Last year, Prerna had become the first woman officer to command a naval ship. ANI reported that her brother Ishan was recently given command of INS Vibhuti.

According to the service, both siblings command their ships under the Western Command.

The INS Vibhuti was part of the traditional steam past to President Droupadi Murmu last week.

On the occasion, Murmu praised the capabilities of the Indian Navy.

“Indian Navy units are deployed for extended periods over vast areas, showcasing their capabilities and strategic influence. Your positive, proactive and quick actions have saved countless lives at sea. It was a special moment for me when the President of Bulgaria called to express his gratitude for rescuing the Bulgarian crew from a hijacked ship earlier this year,” Murmu said at the time.
