Man found dead in The Brook, in Chatham, near the Pentagon Shopping Centre

A man has died following an incident that saw major emergency services respond near a city center car park.

Police cordoned off part of The Brook, in Chatham, next to the Pentagon Shopping Center last night (November 13).

Officers were called to the busy main road at 7.20pm following concerns for the welfare of a person.

They closed the street to traffic on arrival and were assisted by paramedics who confirmed the death of a man in his 30s at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

An air ambulance was also sent to the scene and is believed to have landed near the Great Lines Heritage Park. Firefighters were also present.

Kelly Longman, who lives nearby, said the first time she knew something had happened was when she heard “the sirens.”

She added: “My neighbor came over to tell me the emergency services had arrived and they had closed part of the road.

“There are police, ambulances and there was a fire truck. There was also a helicopter flying around very low.

“I don’t know what happened, but I did hear a noise coming from the area.”

Police say a report is being prepared for the coroner.
