Dolphins cornerback spoils Pittsburgh Steelers safety: ‘I have no respect for it’

As blunt as ever, Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott is in the news after his podcast appearance on former teammate Marlon Humphrey’s Punch Line Podcast. During the podcast, Elliott talked about his former team, the 2023 Miami Dolphins, calling them “soft as (expletive).”

“There were a few guys that were tough, but the majority of the (Dolphins) were not mentally tough individuals,” Elliott said. “So to be on a (Steelers) team with a full team of mentally strong guys competing against a mentally strong team … this is going to be fun.”

When he said it, Elliott was watching the Steelers’ game against the Ravens. Still, the statement resonated in Miami, and many of his former teammates weren’t happy about it.

Cornerback Kader Kohou berated Elliott for saying that, especially since Elliott is on his third team in three years. Kohou believes that the moment Elliott leaves the Steelers, he will destroy them as well, as he does.

“He’s obviously not here for a reason. I don’t know why he would go on a podcast and say something so crazy. When he feels this way, he feels this way. He could have gone on the podcast and said what he wanted to say without trying to shoot us. I have a feeling if he leaves the Steelers and goes to another team, he’ll probably do the same. I got no respect for it. I didn’t think DeShon was the toughest guy,” Kohou said.

The Steelers will not play the Dolphins this year. They could play them at some point in the playoffs if the Dolphins, finally healthy, push on late in the season to make the playoffs with the seventh seed wide open.

However, the plans are for the teams to play at Acrisure Stadium in 2025. Elliott will then be in the second year of his contract, which should be a closely fought match after the comments.
