decent chance of rain at home, watching action in the tropics

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Despite not having much moisture to work with, a passing front will be dynamic enough to dump some cool rain showers onto your First Alert Forecast. Rain chances include 60% Thursday afternoon, 80% early Thursday evening, 40% Thursday night and a slimmer 20% Friday. Be alert, as a stray storm could get into the mix Thursday evening, but the overall severe threat is low. Most places in the Cape Fear region will see a few tenths of an inch of rain, which would be helpful.

In tropical weather news, the National Hurricane Center is advising on Tropical Depression Nineteen in the western Caribbean Sea. Even at this advanced stage of the hurricane season, the waters in this area will be warm enough to energize this system into a storm named Sara. While Sara poses no definable threat to the Carolinas at this time, steering winds could take the ship close to or into Florida over the next week, so your First Alert Weather Team will be sure to monitor it on a day-to-day basis. The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on November 30.
