Two schools in the Readfield area were closed on Thursday due to an incident

READFIELD – Maranacook Regional High School and Maranacook Community Middle School will be closed Thursday after a “concerning incident” was reported to administrators, officials said.

Details about the incident were unclear Wednesday evening, but a post on the school website reported that administrators were working with Deputy Nathan Johnson, the school resource officer, and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the matter.

Maranacook Regional High School and Maranacook Community Middle School are part of Regional School Unit 38, which enrolls students from Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield and Wayne.
