Narayanganj police have arrested a woman for allegedly killing and beheading a businessman with whom she had extramarital affairs after they separated, police said.

The body of the deceased, Jasim Uddin Masum, a 62-year-old businessman, was recovered by police from Rupganj yesterday (November 13).

Police have arrested a suspect, Ruma Akhter, in connection with the murder, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumdar said at a press conference today (Nov 14):

According to the SP, Ruma, who was in a romantic relationship with Masum, confessed to killing him out of anger after a recent argument.

“She lured him to a house in Shyamli, drugged him and then brutally murdered him and dismembered him,” Majumdar alleged.

Masum, a resident of Bashundhara residential area, was the owner of Chand Dyeing Factory in Narayanganj’s Fatulla. He was reported missing on November 10 after he left Gulshan in a car and told his driver that he was going to Narayanganj in another vehicle.
His son later filed a general diary report at Gulshan police station when Masum did not return home and his phone was found switched off.

According to police, Ruma allegedly lured Masum to a house in Shyamoli on November 10. After mixing a sedative into his milk, she killed him while he was unconscious. She then chopped his body into pieces with an ax and disposed of the remains at different locations in Purbachal.

Police are investigating the possibility of other persons being involved in the crime, Senior Inspector Majumdar said.

He said police recovered the murder weapon.
