Kakamega Governor Fernandez Barasa said three more people succumbed to their injuries this morningcausing the number of victims to increase yesterdayfor 10 to 13 people.

The governor said six people are still admitted at the Iguhu Level 4 Hospital, while three others are still recovering at the Kakamega County Referral and Teaching Hospital and are in stable condition.

Speaking while visiting those still hospitalized, Governor Barasa urged the traffic police to reintroduce a roadblock near the accident site to stem the carnage on the road to curb.

He also urged motorists to be careful on the roads, especially as the December festivities approach.

“I urge the traffic police to reinstate the roadblock that was previously there to check unroadworthy vehicles,” he said.

“Police investigation shows that the tankers had worn tires while the two Nissan Matatus were speeding,” he added.

According to police, a tanker en route to Kakamega lost control and rammed into two 14-seater matatus traveling in the opposite direction.

Governor Barasa, who was accompanied by the County Security team, commended the medical and emergency teams from Kakamega and Vihiga Counties for their swift action in assisting the victims.

“We are in contact with the provincial government of Vihiga to see how we can assist the families of the loved ones involved in the accident,” he said.
