GTA Trilogy developer apparently unfollows Rockstar on social media after new update removes name from menu screens

GTA fans are speculating that the developer of 2021’s Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy may not be too happy with Rockstar Games after removing the studio’s name from the game collection menu screens as it appears to have unfollowed the original GTA developer on Twitter.

Earlier this week, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition received an update big enough to match the size of the title. The patch notes don’t reveal how much has changed, with the addition of the “Classic Lighting mode that restores the look and feel of the sky to the original games” only scratching the surface. In addition, the update has made a huge difference to the collection new quality of life updates and major bug fixestoo – all welcome improvements to a release that was heavily criticized at launch.

Except, amid all the changes to the game itself, there was something rather strange about the update. Specifically, it was quickly noted that all mentions of Grove Street Games – the studio that developed the Definitive Edition – had been removed from the collection’s menus and splash screens. On the back end of that, it’s like this claimed that the developer is now unfollowing Rockstar Games on Twitter, which could indicate that he is not particularly happy with the situation itself.

Rockstar still follows Grove Street, so it doesn’t seem like there’s been a large-scale feud or anything like that, but it’s certainly a bit strange that this isn’t being answered, especially when Grove Street do follow a handful of unofficial GTA and Rockstar news accounts. We can’t know what’s happening behind the scenes – maybe that’s just because Grove Street has left the project. After all, it currently follows the official Ark accounts, which makes sense considering it’s currently working on the mobile port for Ark: Ultimate Survival Edition (it also co-developed the console port of Survival: Ascended).

Anyway, if you need something to get you by GTA6‘s launch, then there has absolutely never been a better time to try the Definitive Edition of the trilogy collection. It may have been three years since launch, but better late than never for some improvements, right?
