Officer identified in shooting of knife-wielding suspect near Sunset Park

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – Las Vegas police have identified the officer who fatally shot a knife-wielding suspect near Sunset Park on Tuesday.

That day, officers arrived in the 6900 block of Wine Drive Drive, heard a loud noise coming from a nearby home and entered the home. Inside, two individuals were found fighting, and one was observed with a knife.

One officer ordered the man to drop the weapon, while another officer fired his firearm, striking one of the subjects.

The other person was taken into custody.

The officer who fired his weapon has been identified as 26-year-old Officer Alexander Bookman. He has been with LVMPD since 2021 and is currently assigned to the Community Safety Division of the South Central Area Command.

Officer Bookman has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident.
