Jonesboro councilman charged with simple battery

JONESBORO, La. (KNOE) – A Jonesboro city councilman was arrested after getting into an altercation with a city employee on Wednesday, November 14.

53-year-old Devin Flowers was charged with two counts of simple battery.

Jonesboro Mayor J. Spike Harris released the following statement:

“The Mayor’s Office confirms that City Council Member Devin Flowers has been arrested on two simple charges against a city employee. As Mayor of Jonesboro, I want to reaffirm this administration’s continued commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for all employees. Harassment, intimidation or any form of physical harm directed against our employees is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Public officials are entrusted to serve the community with integrity and professionalism, and any actions that violate that trust or endanger the safety of others are a direct affront to the principles we uphold. Mr. Flowers’ actions, including threatening employees with detention without probable cause, were beyond the scope of his duties as a councilor and are deeply disturbing.

We remind all members of the public that no one is above the law and that accountability is essential to maintaining trust within our community. This administration remains committed to promoting an environment of respect, fairness and due process. We will continue to cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities as this matter is dealt with through the legal system.”

Flowers’ bone was valued at $20,000, according to the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

This is a development story.
