On Wednesday, King Charles III spent the night before his 76th birthday solo at the premiere of Gladiator II after Queen Camille refused to attend after her recovery from a respiratory infection. During his time on the red carpet at Leicester Square Odeon, the King did get to speak to the director Ridley Scott and cast members Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Paul Mescal, And Denzel Washington.

Washington reported some confusion with protocol as he greeted the king. “I didn’t know whether to get you or not,” the actor says said. “But it is my pleasure.”
