Mark-Paul Gosselaar Evades Justice in Chilling ‘Found’ Teaser (Exclusive)

Mark-Paul Gosselaar Evades Justice in Chilling ‘Found’ Teaser (Exclusive)

For Mark-Paul Gosselaarjustice remains incredibly elusive.

In an exclusive teaser for the next episode of Found to PEOPLE, Gosselaar’s character – former high school teacher and serial kidnapper Hugh “Sir” Evans – addresses reporters at a press conference following the rescue of Charlotte (Jadin Harris). Sir was previously held captive by Gabi Mosely (Shanola Hampton), a PR specialist and crisis manager who used Sir to help her solve cases at Mosely & Associates (aka M&A), her firm of private investigators, technology experts and lawyers. (Sir, ironically, he captured Gabi as a child twenty years earlier.)

“Gabrielle Moseley held me captive in her basement for nine months. Not only was I Gabrielle’s hostage, I also became her confidant,” says Sir. “She wanted to talk to me because she has been damaged and tortured. She forced me to help with all the merger and acquisition matters. I was the secret weapon of M&A.”

Just then, one of the authorities approaches Sir on stage.

“That’s what I’m here for,” he responds. “All charges against you have been dropped. For your heroic actions in saving Charlotte, we award you the Medal of Valor.”

During the day an interview with PEOPLEGosselaar and Hampton discussed the show’s success and their complex characters.

“It was never my intention to play Sir as someone who is sympathetic,” Gosselaar said. “I noticed certain qualities of Sir in that first script that interested me as an actor. And I asked NK (Nkechi Okoro Carroll) if there was anyone I could use as a muse to model Sir after, and she said, “Ted Bundy.” So that immediately made it clear who this is for me. This man does terrible things, but because of the way he looks and the way he presents himself, he can get away with a lot.”

Although Hampton said she enjoys playing Gabi, she acknowledged that her character is somewhat of a polarizing figure.

“Sure, some are defending her and giving her a break, but a lot of people are angry at Gabi for the hypocrisy of what she did,” Hampton said, referring to her keeping Sir captive. “So I think the public will be happy that there is no quick fix. And that’s one of the advantages of 22 episodes; we can take the time to achieve what that new normal will be because we have the luxury to do it.

While their on-screen characters are at odds, the two actors actually have nothing but love for each other.

“I couldn’t do this ride without him,” she says. “Mark-Paul makes everything better for me, both on and off screen. He is one of my dearest friends and it was wonderful to share the screen with him. He’s not an overly rehearsed actor who has an idea of how that scene is going to go and can’t push past it. He is so available and ready to play. And I like to play with him on the playground.”

Gosselaar, for his part, describes his fellow player as a ‘bright ball of energy’.

“I’ve never worked with anyone like her. I was hired after the show had already been cast, so there were no chemistry reads between us or anything before that. And when we were shooting the pilot, she immediately surprised me,” he recalled, adding, “She’s just so bubbly and such a smart person — and very good at what she does — that she pushed that button can convert. And it’s a pleasure to be there. She just makes it easy.”
