K-9 Titan killed in the line of duty during a firefight

FAIRBURN, GA (WANF/Gray News) – A police K-9 was killed during a shootout near Atlanta that also left the suspect dead and a deputy injured.

The shooting happened Wednesday evening after a chase through multiple counties in metro Atlanta. according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jason Andre Wilson of Atlanta.

During the shootout, officials said Wilson shot a K-9 and a deputy. The K-9 was killed and the deputy was injured.

Officials said the situation began around 11 p.m. when an officer tried to stop a vehicle on the highway and the driver failed to stop, leading to a pursuit.

According to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson reached speeds of 110 mph.

A deputy stopped Wilson’s car using a PIT maneuver and released the K-9 Titan to help capture Wilson.

Wilson opened fire on Coweta County officers, Fairburn police officers and K-9 Titan using an AK pistol.

The police dog was hit multiple times and died at the scene, officials said.

A deputy was also struck multiple times and suffered several abrasions.

Law enforcement officers returned fire at Wilson, killing him.

The deputy was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

K-9 Titan served with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office for more than five years.

The shooting is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
