Former Ukrainian MP Andrii Derkach, who has fled the country and is wanted, has joined the Security and Defense Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation.

Earlier: In 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Corruption sent a case against Derkach to court for high treason and illegal enrichment. In particular, he was believed to discredit Ukraine in the international arena, deteriorate diplomatic relations with the United States and hinder Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO.

Investigators determined that he received at least $567,000 from Russian law enforcement and intelligence services for subversive activities against Ukraine.

According to the investigation, Derkach, MP Oleksandr Dubinskyi and former prosecutor Kostiantyn Kulyk, on behalf of the Russian secret services, organized events to discredit Ukraine’s image in the international arena, in order to worsen diplomatic relations with the United States and to make Ukraine’s accession to the United States more difficult. Background:
