Winnipeg man, 51, charged with sexual exploitation and assault of incarcerated teen

A 51-year-old man has been charged with sexual exploitation after Winnipeg police say he gave her extra cafeteria items and then sexually assaulted her.

Troy David Wensel was arrested Tuesday after a teen reported she was sexually assaulted while an inmate at the Manitoba Youth Correction Center in 2022 and 2023, a police news release said Thursday.

Wensel worked at the institution as a youth counselor at the time, police said.

Wensel is accused of sexual assault, exploitation and obtaining sexual services.

He was released on conditions including not associating with anyone 18 years of age or younger.
