Cash App users have less than a week to file a claim for a refund for the Data and security breach in 2021.

Users have until November 18, 2024 to file a claim for the $15 million in damages that the mobile payment service was ordered to pay out in a recent settlement.

Plaintiffs in a class action lawsuit against Cash App Investing and Block Inc., filed after a data breach in December 2021, said the companies failed to “exercise reasonable care in securing and protecting consumer information.”

According to the lawsuit, the breach affected 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.

Cash App users can receive up to $2,500.

When did the Cash App security breach occur?

The lawsuit stated that the December 2021 data breach resulted in “the unauthorized public release of the personally identifiable information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

A former employee also gained access to Cash App users’ personal information during their employment and downloaded the data without the users’ knowledge, the lawsuit said.

How do I know if I’ve been scammed through Cash App?

Cash App users should check for any unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers from their Cash App account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024. This is reported by Cashmobile payment service.

Cash App users must have had an account on August 23, 2018 and before August 20, 2024 to make a claim. Eligible users must not have already been refunded by Block Inc., Cash App Investing or a third party, the mobile payment service said.

What types of claims can Cash App users file for?

According to Cash App, a user can make a claim for the following:

  • Out-of-Pocket Losses: Users can file a claim proving that their Cash App account was involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a refund, they can receive up to $2,500 after submitting the required documentation to the company.
  • Lost time: Cash App users who file a claim may be eligible for lost time reimbursement. Users can file a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent dealing with unauthorized users and data breaches.
  • Transaction losses: If a user suffered a monetary loss and did not receive a refund, he/she can file the transaction loss claim.

What if I have more than one Cash App account?

Users may submit only one claim form. However, if you have multiple Cash App accounts that you want to make a claim for, the mobile payment service recommends that users list all their Cash App user tags and information about their claims on one claim form, Cash App said.

How to Claim a Cash App Settlement

To make a claim, Cash App users can submit a completed claim form for consideration by November 18, 2024. You can submit the claim form to cashappsecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
